The latest iteration of Mark Twang sees Andrew Perelman and Jonah Zitelli supported by the talents of Sam Achtermann on drums, Joe DeAngelo on bass, and Alasia Destine-DeFreece on backing vocals. Jonah and Andrew remain committed to refining their sound through collaboration, a commitment which is apparent on each of the ten tracks comprising their most recent release.
Recorded during parts of 2020 and 2021, Companion features Perelman and Zitelli on guitars and vocals, Sam Achtermann on drums, Ethan Bradley and Perelman on bass, and a host of other friends of the band on keyboards, backing vocals, and more. Crafted through a highly unconventional process in which band members and collaborators tracked parts remotely, exchanging audio files, ideas, and critiques via email and text, Companion carries innate themes of both alienation and togetherness. Friendship, self-discovery, and enduring love figure as major themes as well, entangled throughout with feelings of longing and the slippery nature of memory. The result is an introspective-yet-lively collection of songs that sees Mark Twang take a significant step towards their own unique sound.
